Congregational Survey FAQ

Q: Why do I have to take this survey? Surely you have enough responses by now.
A: The Search Committee and interested ministers both want to know as much as possible about our church, its members, its strenghts, its needs, its vision for the future. We need to hear from you. Prospective ministers need to hear from you. Let's get a 100% response rate.

Q: I don't have a computer at home. How can I take an on-line survey?
A: The two office computers are available for congregants to use Sunday mornings. Also, there are paper copies of the survey available in Forbes Hall after each service.

Q: I'm not a member. Can I still take the survey?
A: Yes. The survey is set up so that both members and friends can take it. However, if you want to vote on whether to call the candidate suggested by the Search Committee, you must be a member.

Q: I'm still in YRUU. Can I take the survey?
A: Yes. There's a box on the survey to check if you're under 18. The Search Committee and interested ministers want to know what our Religious Exploration participants think. RE is a very important part of our church.

Q: Are my answers confidential?
A: Yes. Every effort will be made to protect the identity of each respondent. The Search Committee members will not know who has submitted which electronic response. Search Committee member Ian Dodd will personally enter the written responses on our Survey Monkey site. All Search Committee have covenanted to respect the confidentiality of members, friends, and interested applicants. We take this obligation very seriously.

Q: Who will see the results of the survey?
A: The survey results will be made available in summary and narative form, along with all the written comments people make. It will be sent to interested ministerial candidates along with other information about our church and our community. The results will also be posted on uusm.org, and a copy will be available for review in the church office. The highlights will be reported in the monthly newsletter.

Q: I'm busy. How much time will this take?
A: 10-20 minutes.

Q: I don't like answering yes or no questions; can I just tell you what I think?
A: The survey has an entire page where you can answer important questions in your own words. Also, there are plenty of places to comment following other survey questions.

Q: When is the last day I can take the survey?
A: The survey period ends on October 4, 2009.

Q: Can I talk to someone about the survey?
A: Yes. There will be at least one Search Committee member at the Survey/Cottage meeting table in Forbes each Sunday of the survey period (Sept. 13 – Oct. 4). Also, Search Committee members will be wearing their blue Search name tags on Sundays. Talk to any of us, or e-mail search@uusm.org.
