Daybreak Sunday - First Sunday of Every Month

For the past several years a small but extremely committed group of church members have been bringing frozen casseroles and other kinds of food and supplies to church on the first Sunday of every month - Daybreak Sunday.

These items are delivered late that morning to the Daybreak Drop-in Center on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, a facility that provides a place for homeless women to drop in for a meal, a shower, and a place to rest during daytime hours. We would like to expand our involvement with the center, by developing a larger base of monthly contributors and by expanding the kinds of contributions we bring to the center.

These items that are particularly needed and appreciated:

  • frozen casseroles
  • frozen desserts
  • frozen bags of vegetables
(the Health Department requires that all items of this nature must be frozen.)
  • bags of fresh fruits (apples and oranges)
  • canned goods
  • staples (tuna, soups, pasta sauce and pasta)
  • toiletries (tooth paste, soap, shampoo, skin lotions, tooth brushes (especially!) -- the small bottles that come from hotels are much appreciated)
  • combs and brushes
  • towels and wash cloths
  • blankets
  • clothing (particularly larger sizes and especially undergarments of all kinds and sizes)
  • scarves, gloves, hats

Frozen items brought in on Daybreak Sunday can be put in the freezer in Forbes Hall. Other items can be put on the kitchen counter. Please note on the item that it is for Daybreak. They are picked up at 11:00 A.M. sharp for delivery to the center, which closes at noon on Sundays. If you would like to contribute to Daybreak Sunday and would be willing to receive a reminder e-mail or phone call the week prior, please contact Denise Helton.
