Explore one of the oldest religions of mankind. Curious about where the concepts of karma, yoga, non-violence, reincarnation and vegetarianism all developed?  Ever wonder what the main deities represent or how mantras are chosen and used? Do you know how Hinduism is like Unitarian Universalism? Find out in this presentation and discussion with facilitator Mary Romanek.

Your Right Relations Team will be providing a Communications Skills Workshop on Thursday, April 26 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Forbes Hall, to which all are invited.  We will explore skills that will help us live into our Covenant of Right Relations.  With our Covenant we are committing to caring, welcoming, communicating, apologizing, forgiving and striving to be as compassionate and kind as we are able.  When we fall short, we will try to acknowledge our mistakes.  This will most certainly be, at times, challenging and fulfilling and exciting and growthful.  We are working to live in right relation with one another.

You may read the Covenant on our church website:  http://www.uusm.org/for-members/right-relations-task-force.  You may also pick up a copy of the Covenant at the Right Relations table after each service.

Please sign up for the Workshop at the Right Relations table on Sunday.  A member of our Right Relations Team will be glad to respond to your questions and chat with you about what’s happening in right relations these days.  See you there!

Want more personal and spiritual growth? Want to be with other women who can relate to what you are going through? Then this group is for you! We look forward to seeing you as we kick off this new group in April.

May 3, 2018 - 7:30pm

The Men’s Group offers a special opportunity to the men of the congregation and other like-minded men to join our welcoming group in provocative and stimulating discussion and to get to know others with UU perspectives in a more meaningful way. We meet the first and third Thursday of the month from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the NE room of the Cottage.

Two things common to many youth in America are sports and music. Many continue with these well into adulthood. The topic for April 5 is: What sports were/are you involved with and how important were/are they in your life? Is participation in sports and/or interest in professional sports a good thing in our culture? The topic for April 12th is:
What musical activities were/are you involved with and how important was/is it in your life? Is being a musician or enjoying music important or necessary?

For further information contact Richard Mathias.

Our group gathers twice a month to sit together quietly for 20 minutes, to walk with gentle awareness for seven minutes, and to explore the integration of meditation with ordinary life through reading and sharing. It is an ongoing drop-in group, so feel welcome to join us whenever it feels right to you. We have found that this time of quiet meditation and shared exploration can be deeply nourishing – a time of simply “being” amidst all the “doing” of our lives. Anyone who senses they would benefit from 20 minutes of silent, non-guided sitting is welcome to join us, whether they have experience or not. Please note there is some time for walking in the courtyard so bring warm clothes in cool weather.

May 6, 2018 - 10:00am

May 6, 2018 - 12:00pm

April’s art wall will be our first Father/Daughter exhibition, featuring the works of UUSM member Tom Peters and his daughter, Ellie. We hope you can join us for this event! Ellie Peters has created art work worthy of attention since she was quite small. Her art work has become more refined after four years of art classes at Mission Renaissance Schoolof Art, where she was taught painting techniques and the discipline of staying on task. Tom Peters has enjoyed creating work in photography and painting for over 40 years. Tom self-published three books featuring his art work and just recently, a memoir titled, 'Step Away from the War.' The show will run through Sun, April 29.

Bill Blake will present an enjoyable dive into the who and what we are. This on-going, twice a month classon the 1st and 3rd Monday is presented to help participants master specific meditation skills. We endeavor to answer the questions Who am I? (attitudes and beliefs) and What am I? (essence or true nature). This class will include meditations that explore participants' spiritual goals. The monthly group meetings will also focus on insights gained throughout the month. It is expected that participants will develop and enjoy a regular meditation practice.
