Louis Durra
Organist/Pianist
Louis Durra has performed extensively on CDs, in live performances, and on
radio and TV. Artists he’s recorded with include Susan Krebs, Eric Anders,
and Moris Tepper. Artists he’s performed with include Martin Short, Jason
Alexander and Ruben Blades. Venues he’s performed at include the Dorothy
Chandler Pavilion, Ford Theater, the Jazz Bakery, KCRW, KPFK, and KCET.
Louis has performed with a number of dancers and dance troupes, including The
Jazz Tap Ensemble, Savion Glover, Derek Grant, Sam Weber, and Eddie Brown. He
toured Russia and the Baltic states last year with Just In Time, a jazz dance
revue.
Louis has composed for film and television including the CBS daytime drama
The Guiding Light, and various Movies-Of-The-Week. The Guiding
Light was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for music while Louis was on staff.
Louis has scored and music-directed theatrical productions including at the
Mark Taper Forum, the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, and South Coast Repertory.
He won a Drama-Logue award for his score for The Lesson at the Mark
Taper Forum. Of his work with Animal Farm at the Theatricum Botanicum, the L.A.
Weekly referred to the “...Nimble musical accompaniment by Louis Durra,
Ian Flanders, Tom Allard and Armando Gutierrez...” and Variety wrote,
“... The onstage accompaniment is handled quite nicely by pianist Louis
Durra.” Louis also did theater work in the UK (Fringe Festival), France
and Scandinavia.
Louis has edited sound on 26 features for HBO, Showtime and other production
companies.
