Events & Opportunities
There are many opportunities throughout the year for fellowship and service.
Those sponsored (or simply enthusiastically attended) by the RE program are:
Social Justice Sundays (9/25, 11/26, 2/25, 3/25, 4/29)
Most fourth Sundays throughout the year, our children and youth have an opportunity,
in their classes, to take part in service projects to benefit our church,
our local community and our world through hands-on projects.
Youth Program Dinner (9/15)
A potluck for parents and youth in Coming of Age and Senior High for an orientation
to our programs and activities for youth at UUCCSM.
RE Parent Orientation Potluck (10/1)
All families are invited to this potluck dinner, sponsored by the RE Council,
for an introduction to our 06-07 RE program, as well as an opportunity to
meet your children’s RE teachers and familiarize yourself with our
curricula.
Westside Food Bank’s 5k Hunger Walk (10/29)
This year for the first time the RE program is sponsoring UUCCSM’s participation
in this annual event, the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Westside Food
Bank, a local organization which distributes food to a variety of hunger organizations
in Los Angeles. This event will take the place of our usual UNICEF Carnival
this year, while our buildings are under construction.
All Ages Campout Weekend (11/11-12)
First ever All-Ages Church Campout, at Leo Carrillo Campsite just 28 miles
away in Malibu. We have the group site to ourselves with room for 50 UU'ers.

Pilgrim’s Feast (11/23)
UUCCSM’s annual Thanksgiving feast, replete with a readers’ theatre
presentation that engages all who attend in celebrating the true spirit of
Thanksgiving. One of the most popular events in our church year.
Cookie Bake (12/2)
Our annual party to support the Santa Monica Head Start program through baking,
decorating and donating batches of cookies for their holiday party.
Winter Holiday Pageant (12/17)
Annual intergenerational holiday worship service, with a different theme each
year, in a rousing no-rehearsal pageant style; participants are drawn from
the pews and all who would like to take part will have an opportunity to
do so!
Lessons of Loss (1/7-28)
A special in-class January Inter-session for all classes, this four-week program
starts with a description of everyday losses, and gently introduces our young
ones to the universality of this experience. Through readings and structured
activities, children and youth will be able to identify their questions,
concerns, and anxieties in an age appropriate, safe, and faith based community.
Secret Pals Program (2/18-3/17)
A beloved intergenerational program which brings new friends together through
letter exchanges and ends with a St. Patrick’s Day “revealing” party.
YRUU Sunday (4/15)
Annual worship service created and led by our high school youth who share their
perspective on being UU. Not to be missed!
Coming of Age Sunday (5/20)
The culmination of our year-long 8th grade COA program, participants share
their own credo statements in a worship service of their own design.
Religious Exploration Sunday (6/6)
A special worship service and reception to celebrate our year together, mark
transitions including our bridging high school seniors and honor our RE volunteers
as we segue into our summer RE.
DeBenneville Pines All-Church Retreat (6/15-17)
A time for relaxing and playing together at our beautiful mountain camp.
Summer RE
Religious Exploration at UUCCSM continues through the summer with informal
and engaging sessions for all ages.
Religious Exploration Camps for Children, Youth and Families
Week-long summer camps and week-end camps throughout the year provide opportunities
for rest, recreation, exploration and making new UU friends from around our
district at our beautiful mountain retreat.
