UUSM - Religious Exploration - Senior High Youth
Senior High Youth
Young Religious Unitarian Universalists
For 9th-12th grades
Meets during the 9:00 & 11:00 services
YRUU is the denomination’s title for self-directed, youth-empowering
groups made up of senior high students. Across the continent, YRUU groups meet
for social events, social activism, leadership development, religious growth,
and having fun. They create worship services, meet in local and continental
conferences, raise money and create social change. Here at UUCCSM, our program
is growing rapidly, and is developing its focus on the six areas of balanced
youth programs, as articulated by the UUA Youth Office: Worship, Community
Building, Social Action, Learning Leadership, and Youth-Adult Relations. With
the guidance of adult advisors, this group empowers teens to create their own
vision and mission for their program. Largely discussion-based, YRUU also takes
part in social justice projects, organizes social gatherings, and will plan
and lead a Sunday worship service for the congregation. This is an opportunity
for youth to continue where the Coming of Age program left off, as they and
their advisors explore what it means to be young and UU, how our UU principles
inform how we live our lives, and what power young UU’s have to change
the world.
Youth Activities
For Coming of Age and YRUU youth
Organized by the Youth Activities Committee. For more information,
contact committee chairs Karen Patch and Melissa Weaver.
Each month, the YAC plans a social event for our COA and YRUU youth, to provide
fun events and bonding between the youth of our church. Including 8th graders
in the outings facilitates their transition into the senior high youth group
at the end of the year. Past events have included a beach cookout, bowling,
overnights, amusement park trips, rock climbing, laser tag, and more!
