YRUU
Grades 9-12, Ages 14-18
YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists) or "Why Are You You?"
is the demonination's title for self-directed, youth-empowerment groups made
up of senior high students. Across the country, YRUU groups meet for social
events, social activism, leadership development, religious growth and having
fun. They go camping, create worship services, meet in local and national conferences,
raise money and create social change.
Here at our church, YRUU is a lively, fun group of teens. Open to students who
have completed Coming of Age and other UU high school
students. With the guidance of adult advisors, this group enpowers teens to
create their own vision and mission. With support from the DRE and Youth Activities
Committee, the teens have social events with our church's Coming of Age group,
along with other YRUU teens in the district. The district, which covers Southern
California, Arizona and Nevada, oftens brings UU teens together for Mini-Cons,
a weekend of talk, music and fun.
