Good morning.
Today we FINALLY break ground on the first phase of our building project, the
relocation and renovation of the blue cottage. Later phases will add
a new classroom wing, renovate Forbes Hall and expand the sanctuary.
The building project is truly an exercise in "faith in action" demanding
all our Unitarian Universalist values. We've needed respect for the inherent
worth and dignity of every person to balance diverse needs, a willingness to
question, refine and reconsider to find the best design within our budget,
patience and commitment to democratic process as we brought the design to the
congregation and through the City approval process, a renewed commitment to
being good neighbors, and to making the new building energy and resource efficient.
Throughout this process, I've been inspired by the contributions of many of
you, from the valuable expertise of the building committee, the courage of
the Board, church leadership, and congregation in making tough decisions, the
help of the new green living group on sustainability, the generosity of those
donating to the capital campaign, and many, many others. I light this
chalice in celebration of our community and the vitality of this church as
it builds for an even brighter future.
